CCS offers live streams of Jesuit-Holy Cross, St. Augustine-Brother Martin matchups

The action starts Friday with the 98th renewal of Louisiana’s oldest prep football rivalry between Jesuit and Holy Cross at Tad Gormley Stadium. The live stream on CCS begins at 7 p.m. with kickoff at 7:15.

The Blue Jays (1-3) and Tigers (2-2) have alternated hoisting the Golden Football for the last five years, with Jesuit blanking Holy Cross 38-0 last season.

Jesuit features a balanced attack with the passing of quarterback Alex Watermeier, who has six touchdown passes on the season, and the running of Michael Torry and Willie Robinson, who have combined for 378 yards.

Holy Cross’ offense leans more toward the run, with nearly 70 percent of its snaps on the ground. Landen Bates has accounted for 430 rushing yards and six touchdowns.

Lenny Vangilder and Terrence Jones will describe the action of Friday’s matchup.

On Saturday, CCS will have a live stream of the Gentilly rivalry between St. Augustine (3-1) and Brother Martin (1-3), also at Gormley. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

St. Augustine running back Garland LaFrance, a Texas Tech commitment, has accounted for 257 total yards and three touchdowns. The Brother Martin offense is led by quarterback John-Paul Pierce, a returning starter who has thrown for 593 yards.

Last year, the Purple Knights rallied for a 24-18 victory on a last-second punt return.

The St. Augustine-Brother Martin game will be simulcast on WGSO 990 AM.

The other District 9-5A rivalry matchup of the weekend between Archbishop Shaw (0-4) and Archbishop Rummel (3-0) from Joe Yenni Stadium at 2 p.m. Saturday will also air on WGSO. Ken Trahan will handle the play-by-play of both Saturday games.

The Rummel offense, led by quarterback Chandler Fields and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, has scored 79 points and accounted for 1,026 yards the last two weeks. Fields has thrown for 11 touchdowns in three games season.

Shaw, under first-year head coach Tommy Connors, lost its district opener to Holy Cross last weekend.
