The Purple Knights football team began practice on a state-of-the-art, multi-million dollar practice facility adjacent to the school on St. Bernard Avenue. The owners of the property installed a natural grass turf, sprinkler and drainage systems that are built to NFL standards. The owners have given the school use of the property through the fall semester.
“We have worked very hard to secure use of this property for our sports and physical education programs this year. Our student-athletes won’t have to travel on a bus back and forth to practice, this helps their performance both on the field and in the classroom,” said Oyd Craddock, President and CEO. “Work is underway with members of our alumni and the business and philanthropic community to secure this property for St. Aug’s permanent use. This is an exciting opportunity for us,” Craddock said.
“Our young men are very appreciative of this investment. I expect a lot of hard work and very spirited practices from our players,” said Al Jones, Head Football Coach.
Dates will be announced for community attendance at varsity practice and freshman team games inside the facility. Tours will also be scheduled for parents, alumni, and friends.
St. Aug opens the season August 27, 2016, against East St. John High School in the St. Aug Jamboree at Tad Gormley Stadium. Varsity football season passes are on sale now at the St. Augustine finance office.
