Several Purple Knights participated in the Slam ’N’ Jam volleyball competition, hosted by the CYO Office of the Archdiocese of New Orleans on April 9 at Coconut Beach Volleyball Courts in Kenner. The annual event supports Camp Friendship and Camp Pelican.
Camp Friendship is a camp for children with Spina Bifida. Camp Pelican is a camp for children with Chronic Asthma and other pulmonary/breathing disorders. Purple Knight, Fr. Tony Ricard ’82, St. Aug Campus Minister and Theology instructor, has served as camp director for Camp Pelican since 1985. Several members of the Purple Knight family participate in the camp as campers, counselors and staff.
Every year the volleyball tournament brings together teams from all of the Catholic High Schools in the greater New Orleans area. St. Augustine participates in the fundraiser along with a host of other local schools including: Academy of the Sacred Heart, Academy of Our Lady, Archbishop Chapelle, Archbishop Rummel, Archbishop Shaw, Bonnabel, Brother Martin, Cabrini, Crescent City, De La Salle, East Jefferson, Grace King, Hahnville, Holy Cross, Holy Rosary, Jesuit, Mount Carmel Academy, St. Martin’s Episcopal, St. Mary’s Dominican, St. Scholastic Academy, Ursuline Academy and West Jefferson.
